| The title is interesting to say the least. What
is this??? It's science fiction/science fact. You may have heard of 'SETI' which is the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, well, BOINC
is going a bit beyond that since the launch of the Space Telescope 'Hubble'.
There are Black Holes out in space and the NSF (National Science Foundation)
is interested in learning more about them. They funded the writing of a
software program called 'BOINC' which is used to analyze data collected by
the SETI radio telescope.
The exciting part is that YOU can participate in this project. There is
no cost to join. I have founded a Team called CHICOPEE which is actively
crunching this data and reporting the results back to the labs at the
University of California at Berkeley and other project locations around the
world.
All you need to do is the following:
1. Download the BOINC Software and install it on your computer.
2.Think up a really neat name for your computer.
You can use your nickname, your company name or something that no one else has chosen.
3.Register at the BOINC site (shown at the right) and join the CHICOPEE
Team. You can see how we or your computer is doing (check out the links to
the right).
4.After you Join, We will contact you by E-Mail in case you need help and
you will know how to contact us.

That's it. The neat part is that when you are not using your computer, it
will work on the Seti project. It never uses more than 50% of your
processing power and when it's sees you come back it stops working on the
project and you get 100% or your computer back. They also have a really neat
screensaver and wallpaper you can download if you wish.
Now how many can claim to be working on the
NSF Seti Project? Or
say that they are a member of Team Chicopee. Get started today, we are
competing against other teams worldwide, and CHICOPEE is on the map.
In the future, the BOINC software will be used for
other projects, like
Cancer and other medical research. You will be able to specify what
percentage of your computers idle time goes to various research projects.
We are
excited about this concept and simply say "It's good science and it's a good
race". |
